The Club

Every summer, families from around the world come to Groton Long Point to relax, recharge, and catch up with friends. At the center of this is the Groton Long Point Yacht Club: generations of families have participated in Yacht Club activities; lifelong friendships have been forged on the tennis courts or in the Inner Lagoon; spouses have met at Kiddie dances.

The Yacht Club’s goal is simple: provide recreational and social activities for the Groton Long Point community, including teaching children the basic skills of various summer sports, proper conduct and good sportsmanship, all in a safe and supportive environment.

The Yacht Club’s activities take place on “the Point” in various locations. The main office is part of The Casino building and overlooks the Outer Lagoon and its moorings filled with skiffs. Adjacent to the office is Clark Hall where Kiddie Dances and movies take place and where many adult social events occur. In the mornings, sailing for the youngest sailors occurs on the Inner Lagoon; tennis lessons are taught at the Kids’ courts nearby. At South Beach, students learn how to swim off South Dock.

The Groton Long Point Yacht Club is what many call “the heartbeat of GLP.” Without it, “Groton Long Point would be just another pretty peninsula in Long Island Sound.
