Women's Singles Tennis Tournament (July)

General Tournament Rules

FORMATS:

  • All tournaments will be played in a round-robin format.
  • Finals of weekend tournaments will be played on Sundays, tournaments during week Finals will play on Thursdays. 
  • Players will be assigned their opponent and their court for each round.

    **Failure to follow the schedule will result in automatic disqualification**

  • The tournament specific rules, schedule, and pairings in the case of a draw, will be emailed to tournament participants the night before the tournament and posted at courts.
  • During the tournaments, a GLPYC staff member or a designated volunteer will record the scores and determine the pairings, date, time(s), and format (number of games/sets, scoring, etc.) for the semi-finals and finals, emailing them to the tournament participants.

     

    SIGN-UPS:

  • All tournament signups must be done online through www.glpyc.org
  • For weekend tournaments, players must sign-up online by Thursday at 5:00 pm.
  • For Tuesday tournaments, players must sign-up online by Sunday at 5:00 pm.
  • Mixed, Men’s and Women’s Doubles players must email their partner’s name to office@glpyc.org when they sign-up.

     

     

    Tennis Specific COVID-19 Rules & Procedures

     

    **Play at your own risk.  Do not play if you feel sick in any way**

     

    SELF-CERTIFICATION

  • Players will need to self-certify that they are not exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms before or during the tournament, nor have they been in contact with someone currently diagnosed as COVID-19 positive in the last 14 days.
  • If a player is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms, or has been in contact with someone currently diagnosed as COVID-19 positive in the last 14 days, the player will not be allowed to participate.If the tournament has already begun, the player must withdraw.All other players in the tournament will be informed should a player need to withdraw due to COVID-19 symptoms.

     

    HYGIENE:

    Players should observe good hygiene procedures.  This includes:

  • Bringing their own hand sanitizer, water, towels, etc.
  • Removing their trash from the courts after each match
  • Avoiding touching surfaces and face/eyes
  • Sanitizing hands frequently (especially before entering and on leaving the court),
  • Coughing/sneezing into one’s elbow/sleeve.
  • Avoiding sharing food, water, sunscreen, rackets, and other equipment, etc.
  • Wiping down their equipment, including rackets, water bottles, or other items after play.
  • Wearing masks when not on the court.

     

    ON-COURT

  • Players must exercise social distancing at all times.
  • Players should proceed directly to their assigned court without gathering outside the courts beforehand.Warm-ups should be for 10 minutes before a player’s first match.
  • There should be no handshakes, high-fives, hugs, fist bumping, etc. before, during, or after matches.
  • Each player will be provided with a can of balls and must mark their balls with a sharpie.
  • During the tournament, each player should handle only his or her own tennis balls, kicking or using their racket to send errant tennis balls to the other players or court.
  • While changing sides between games and while changing courts during the tournament, players should carry their individual tennis balls and exercise social distancing.

1. All adult tournament participants, including doubles partners, must be Yacht Club members and at least 16 years old. Only current GLPYC staff may play in tournaments without being members.

2. Participants must sign up (on-line or in the office) by noon on the day before the tournament is scheduled. Any tournament fees must be paid at the time of signup. For the summer of 2020, participants can only sign up on line, and must sign up by 5:00 pm on the Thursday before weekend tournaments and 5:00 pm the Sunday before Tuesday tournaments.

3. Participants must be available the day of the tournament itself and the day of the finals. There will be no rescheduling for other commitments. If a player discovers he or she is unable to play before the tournament starts, he or she will withdraw. If a player qualifies for the finals and is unable to play at the scheduled time, he or she will forfeit. If a player must withdraw or forfeit, he or she should let the office staff (if play is not in process) or Tournament Director (if play is in process) know as soon as possible to allow format and/or seedings to be adjusted if possible. Adjustments could include removing or adding Ads, increasing or decreasing the number of games and/or sets played per opponent, switching from round robin to bracket or vice versa or any other adjustment the Tournament Director deems necessary for the match.

4. Tournament fees will be refunded with a $2.00 handling fee up until noon the day before the tournament. No refunds will be granted after that point. (NOT APPLICABLE FOR 2020)

5. Doubles participants must have a partner in order to play. While the office and tennis staff will assist players in finding partners, there are no guarantees. If you sign up for a doubles tournament on-line, our system will require you to provide the name of your partner.
